Amazing story - if you have an hour of spare time, I highly recommend this story about (mainly) English hooligans during World Cup 2006 in Germany.

A recent post I wrote for Cybercrime Law was quoted by FoxNews.
The context was the how overzealous computer crime prosecution can trample on an accused’s rights. It was about an Arizona prosecution for child pornography against a defendant who vigorously claimed his innocence, but after $250,000 in legal fees and a potential of 90 years in prison, the defendant, Matt Bandy accepted a plea bargain on substantially lesser counts than originally charged. The FoxNews.com article cited my post on a recently released FBI guide directed at local law enforcement investigations involving Internet and computer networks. The article suggests that Arizona local law enforcement should have conducted proper forensic analysis of the computer to ensure that the defendant actually downloaded the alleged offensive images as opposed to having them automatically downloaded by an Internet worm or a virus.

Funny (to everybody except the subject) story. A 21-year old German wanted to visit his girlfriend in Sydney, Australia so he went on a website, typed Sydney as the destination and prepared for his trip. Dressed for the Australian summer in T-shirt and shorts, Tobi Gutt left Germany on Saturday for a four-week holiday. Instead of arriving “down under”, Gutt found himself on a different continent and bound for the chilly state of Montana.
Turns out that Gutt mistyped the destination field when he booked his plane ticket online so instead of Sydney, Australia, he typed Sydney, Montana. “I did wonder but I didn’t want to say anything,” Gutt told the Bild newspaper. “I thought to myself, you can fly to Australia via the United States.”
According to the CNN story, the hapless tourist, who had only a thin jacket to keep out the winter cold, spent three days in Billings airport before he was able to buy a new ticket to Australia with 600 euros in cash that his parents and friends sent over from Germany.

Lots of noise, lots of commentary surround what some call the “biggest deal in sports history.” I am not a big fan of David Beckham only because he has not shown anything on the field over the past few years (and I am not interested in his family’s off-field adventures.) So when the National Public Radio broadcasts areport trying to argue that MLS is breaking away from its practice of bringing foreign players in their twilight, I was somewhat surprised.
The NPR transcript of the segment is pending but you can listen to it here. The segment went something like that:
The MLS has a reputation of bringing foreign star players in their twilight. With the David Beckham deal, MLS is breaking away from this practice by signing a star player in his prime football career (emphasis added.)
Come again? David Beckham is in his prime football career? Sounds like a canned statement by MLS suits, especially knowing that Becks has been warming the bench for most of the season in Madrid and was dropped by the English national team.

I’ve decided to give my blog a new life. My old blog was a self-written, custom-made, feature-starved, and extremely neglected creature. It is time for a change and I’ve started by installing a new blog software with all its bells and whistles (which I will be learning over the next weeks.)
I hope to be posting more often and I’d hope to hear from you. I will read every comment you leave and I will try to respond, whenever it is appropriate.
Best-
D.
